Guy before him swore he had reservations to fly here & pick it up, then the night before he was to arrive said he wasn´t coming unless I let him have it based on a fax to his bank (on a Saturday). When I said no, he accused me of being "fishy". I checked on him & found he hadn´t made any reservations at all! I have references. Bike is in Mexico City.

The seller received the bike from the grandson of the gentleman who raced it on the southwest Illinois dirt tracks in the 1940's. Bike was put away in a shed in the late 40's and had not seen daylight until seller purchased it very recently. It is definitely a time capsule of a period racer. Has not been started in many years. This was the first engineering project by Stout. He later went on to form the Stout Metal Airplane Comapny which designed and built the Ford Trimotor aircraft. These spark plugs are a set that was actually used in Joe Petrelli's historic Harley-Davidson land speed record run in 1936. Unfortunately, I don't have any provenance authenticating this. These are the larger 18mm size. One of the fins is broken and I have included that one in the picture. You will be buying two spark plugs (the other one is fine). Body has no apparent rust, strong original tub has had rear floor professionally replaced, cleaned and primed. Tub and fender have no bondo and still show years of dents. Excellent surviving original fabric interior side panel arm rests and seat. Seat has solid springs and original oak frame. Fender never was drilled for tail light. Hi guys. These genuine WWII parts will fit on a 1942 Harley-Davidson XA, the WWII Harley WLA and the WWII Indians.

The ignition switch is genuine Briggs & Stratten keyless (circa 1944) and has the blackout feature.

The toggle switch housing is from a Harley.

The bracket is anyone's guess but I think it's off of an XA.

The blackout light lens cover is stamped with an I fits the above models as well as Jeeps, Willys, tanks, etc.

Anyway, let me know if your want 'em.

It was redone 25 years ago with a few incorrect parts like the muffler, speedo and seat. It does not have all correct hardware and plating. It has the original frame, springer, tanks and fenders plus good numbers and a title. A few things were chromed like the dash, pedals and oil tank. The wheels are chrome 16's but he has the original stepped 18's and they need to be totally redone. It should run with a little work and he wants 20 for it. I don't have photos and the old timer will not ship it or get you photos and only wants to deal with me. If you are not in the area or can't travel very soon then please don't respond. Here you have a "once in a lifetime" chance to buy and own one of the best re-built Duo-Glide's in the world or maybe the best. No money saved when this was re-done to be and look, maybe better than when it left Milwaukee after it was produced on the 04th of May 1962. Painted just as it was painted at the factory, with instructions received from a former paint job departments employee. Only OEM Harley parts used when engine and transmission was re-conditioned. There is not the first part on this bike manufactured in Taiwan or anywhere else outside the States. To be honest, among the plenty options on this bike, only the spark plug box can be a re-production, can't be sure of that. The exhaust system is made by Paughco in the States and the seat is re-done in Finland (Finland is not a bad country). I have the solo seat as well. The tires are the exact copies made by Commander. I have converted the electric system to 12volt, that's why the coil is not correct nor the distributor, but I have the original dual-point distributor, 6v generator and the dual-coils with correct frame and cover, and these follows the bike. The charge regulator is converted to electronic, but it is inside the original regulator, so you can't see it. The oil lines should be cadmium plated, but they are not, sorry for that. Nearly all of the bolts and nuts are genuine as CP1038. The bike (and seller) are in Finland. Here you have a "once in a lifetime" chance to buy and own one of the best re-built Duo-Glide's in the world or maybe the best. No money saved when this was re-done to be and look, maybe better than when it left Milwaukee after it was produced on the 04th of May 1962. Painted just as it was painted at the factory, with instructions received from a former paint job departments employee. Only OEM Harley parts used when engine and transmission was re-conditioned. There is not the first part on this bike manufactured in Taiwan or anywhere else outside the States. To be honest, among the plenty options on this bike, only the spark plug box can be a re-production, can't be sure of that. The exhaust system is made by Paughco in the States and the seat is re-done in Finland (Finland is not a bad country). I have the solo seat as well. The tires are the exact copies made by Commander. I have converted the electric system to 12volt, that's why the coil is not correct nor the distributor, but I have the original dual-point distributor and the dual-coils with correct frame and cover, and these follows the bike. The charge regulator is converted to electronic, but it is inside the original regulator, so you can't see it. The oil lines should be cadmium plated, but they are not, sorry for that. Nearly all of the bolts and nuts are genuine as CP1038. The bike (and seller) are in Finland. The gas tank is from 1974 fx everything else I oem matching for a 62 perfect cases and numbers with title. I think it would be easy to swap or sell of incorrect parts for the right ones making this a easy resto heck the magneto is worth 500! I could part it out and get more but that seems a shame. Buy for 2850 I don think you would be disappointed.

439. 06/18/2011 sfrizzelll@aol.com message: your looking at an indian chief custom bobber i finished in 2004 !i never rode it much put it in a couple of shows and just started it up a couple of times a year to keep the oil in the tank .this bike has the best of everything ,the engine was rebuilt from the oil pump up with a jims crankpin right up to the kiwi heads decked .30 .the motor is bored 40 over with new valves pistons guides the works.the system is 12 volt with a cycle electric generator and an electronic ignition,the tranny is still very tight and works good ,the fuel tanks are the welded ones from the iron horse corral and the oil filter external setup is from old iron,it has nos beck grips and flanders bars ,this was not my first indian so i knew everything i wanted when i did this build.kiwi seat + speedo and cable ,kevin flannigan did the volt meter .ignition from chuck myles as well as the 70's era cast aluminum running boards that chuck used to make .the engine cases are polished.akront front 21" rim with indian caliper and 18" rear borrani rim off a 70's sportster,the springer is a nos bad boy front end with special adaptors to fit the indian frame .linkert carb with lyle landstrom cover ,email me because the details are endless i will be going to the rhinebeck meet if you want to buy it i will have it there or will deliver if you pay before hand .this was a labor of love and i know i will never be able to replace the parts as a whole on this bike .i doubt the money i put in and time will never be replaced i just have no time for this with 2 other motorcycles that demand my attention also . the front fender was signed by billy lane and indian larry at a boston bike show in jan of 2004 larry passed in august of the same year it is kind of faded but you can redo if you choose to .it has a new hampshire registration as they do not title vehicles this old . make sure your countries customs will accept this form on ownership if you decide to buy it .i have a company that will give you a quote from my door to your port anywhere in the world .ask questions as i want no suprises for you .full payment due within 7 days the auction end .to be clear the serial # on the frame is 341146 the engine # seems to be an old re stamp with # cdo 523 it does have a timing hole on the top of case .the registration is in the frame numbers not the engine !!this is not a matching # bike sorry to all the people who must have matching #.steve [ picture included ]

It (Standard) was more a dealer option, on Indian, Thor, Pope, when most companies used Troxel or Messinger brand seats. All brands were doing away with the front spring around this time, so I think this seat wouldn't have been sold after 1917 or so except perhaps as leftover inventory. There is a faint stamp that says Standard on the top at the back part of the saddle. The seat is in very nice overall condition, given it's age. This one I have is nice with no cracks and has never been chromed or welded. It does have one bottom mounting bolt up front that is broken off flush with the bottom of the housing that will need removal. I'll trade for one as nice as this one with a broken off bolt or stripped threads. It only has to be good enough for a display motor I am building. Also front forks, axles, handlebars, tanks, 3 fenders (1 original fender, 1 bobbed, 1 good repro), NICE good HD original seats (HD solo w/skirt & T bar & buddy seat w/handrail), nice tombstone taillight that fits Knuckles & Pans too, crash bar, side stand, floorboards w/ HD rubber, clutch cable/bracket, air cleaner, TANK EMBLEMS, shift lever, dash, original 16" rims/hubs with new stainless spokes, laced & trued by Buchanan's Spoke & Rim (these also fit some Knuckles, Pans & early Shovels too) , exhaust header/pipe, new clutch discs, new nos seat post spring. There are just a few minor things to be done to this frame: install footboard mounts, and clean up a couple small welds where the top tank mount and seat T mount was removed and then re-installed. Outside of the pukey yellow color this frame is super nice and solid. The bottoms of the frame are nice and round! Correct engine upgrades if you really want to ride such as 50% oversize scavenge pump, internal scrapers etc. The engine is the first one made in 1930 , serial # 38-61-30. What is it worth?
